Global Zabiha Udhiya/Qurbani Program 2024
Project Background & Humanitarian Crisis
For the Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Eid-ul-Azha often passes quietly, without the aroma of fresh meat or the joy of celebration that others around the world take for granted. Having fled persecution and now living in fragile shelters, most refugees cannot afford to perform Qurbani or even taste meat for months at a time. Recognizing this reality, Jano Seba Kendra (JSK), in collaboration with Helping Hand for Relief & Development (HHRD), USA, initiated the Global Zabiha Udhiya/Qurbani Program 2024. The goal was simple yet profound — to bring happiness, nourishment, and a sense of dignity to thousands of Rohingya families during the sacred days of Eid-ul-Azha. Through the program, 105 cows and 70 goats were sacrificed inside the camps under proper Islamic guidelines. The meat was hygienically processed, carefully packaged, and distributed among 29,925 individuals in Camps 12 and 13. The atmosphere was filled with emotion — children rejoiced, elders prayed, and the community celebrated a day that reminded them they were not forgotten.
“Our children smiled while eating meat after so long. It felt like a real Eid again.”
— Shamsul Haque, Camp-12 Beneficiary
