Ramadan Food Program 2024 for Rohingya Refugees
Project Background & Humanitarian Crisis
Every year, the holy month of Ramadan brings a spiritual sense of peace and reflection. Yet, for thousands of Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, fasting often comes with hunger and uncertainty. Having fled violence and persecution, these families now struggle to secure even basic food. The rising cost of essentials and the declining international aid have made their situation more desperate than ever. In this critical time, Jano Seba Kendra (JSK), supported by Helping Hand for Relief & Development (HHRD), USA, launched the Ramadan Food Program 2024 for Rohingya Refugees to ensure that no fasting family would go hungry. Before Ramadan began, JSK field teams and volunteers identified the most vulnerable families through surveys and coordination with camp leaders (Majhis) and local authorities. The distribution of comprehensive food packages — containing dates, sugar, noodles, chickpeas, onion, oil, and other essentials — helped refugees observe the holy month with comfort and dignity. In the presence of the HHRD delegation, JSK successfully distributed all food packs, restoring smiles and faith among families who had been struggling for months.
“We were uncertain how to observe Ramadan after losing everything in the fire. The food pack from JSK and HHRD gave us strength to fast again.”
— Amir Hamza, Camp-5, Ukhiya
